HOW IT’S MADE

For our inaugural sparkling wine, we harvested the four acre block of Vermentino from the Raymond Burr Vineyard in northern Dry Creek Valley. As the wine was almost finished fermenting, we pulled off a few gallons, hand-bottled it, and let the fermentation finish in bottle. Doing this traps the carbon dioxide (CO2) in the bottle making it bubbly, but not as aggressively bubbly as a classic Champagne. This is an ancient method of making sparkling wine called Pétillant Naturel.

BEHIND THE LABEL

For the release of our first sparkling wine, we partnered with long-time friend and artist, Michelle Carnes, whose paintings have graced the walls of the Joseph Jewell tasting room for many years. As we contemplated a uniquely fun, experimental label for this 30 case production wine, Michelle’s art stood out as a fantastic way to celebrate a new wine and share a splash of summer sparkle.
To us, her painting, “Rebirth,” reflects our decision to dive head first into new ideas and experimentation in winemaking techniques. A stunning painting of bubbles, on a bottle of bubbles, is also too good to resist!
You can explore Michelle’s art and purchase prints of “Rebirth” here.

A WINEMAKER’S PERSPECTIVE

” I hope you enjoy our first ever sparkling wine! I’ve been wanting to make a sparkling for many years now and when the opportunity presented itself in 2020, I jumped on it. With a brand new wine you never know what the end result will be, but that’s half the adventure of being a winemaker. I’m excited with how this wine turned out and can’t wait for you to try it!”
